Before getting a tattoo
There are a few things you need to know an precautions you need to take before going to the tattoo parlor. Firstly, do not drink alcohol the night before your appointment because it thins the blood and you'll bleed more while being tattooed. Aspirin also thins the blood so it's better to avoid that too because it might become harder healing your new tattoo.
Drugs also affect the tattooing process in different ways. You need to consult your doctor before taking pain drugs before getting the tattoo. Pregnant women cannot be tattooed. Also, discuss about any possible health risks or allergies you might be exposed to.
Purchase the ointment you decide to use ahead of time. You can use what you have left from your previous tattoos, if you have kept it clean, in a safe place. Never share ointments with other people because it is possible to transmit potentially rare diseases. Eat before you go to the tattoo saloon and drink plenty of liquids so you don't get dehydrated.
Be advised that many artists charge by the hour and you will consequently be paying for all the breaks you take. If you are sick or you have a weakened immune system, be very careful when it comes to keeping germs and bacteria away from your tattoo. Start taking Vitamin C and Zinc to boost your immune system. It is better to wait until you are healed of any virus, so as to keep yourself healthy.
