After getting a tattoo

Taking care of the tattoo until it fully heals is very important. Follow the instructions you receive from the studio where you got your tattoo from. Also, if you see any signs of infection on your skin, call your doctor right away. To make sure the healing process goes normally, keep a bandage on the area for at least 24 hours. Avoid touching the area and don't pick at it. Avoid alcohol touching the tattoo because it dries the area; instead use antibacterial soap. Use a soft towel to dry the tattoo by patting. You can also use antibacterial ointment if you're not allergic to it.

If you see any redness or swelling, put an ice pack on the tattooed area. Avoid the tattoo getting wet until it heals completely. Stay away from pools, hot tubs, or long, hot baths. Also keep your tattoo  out of the sun until it's fully healed. Even after it's fully healed, the tattoo can still suffer if it's directly exposed to sun rays. If you can't avoid it, always apply sunscreen with a minimum protection factor of 30.

Tattoo artists and people that have tattoos have different opinions regarding the care needed after a new tattoo. Many recommend applying various products on the skin. The most recommended products petroleum jelly, lanolin, or products used for the treatment of burns or cuts. As the tattoo industry started to grow, specific products were developed for the aftercare, as long as infection is avoided.
